Disk-mag reviews by DARK
------------------------
Okay, lets start with....
Deadlock Issue #4/ Dimension X
This mag is presented really nicely
with some nice menu bar GFX and a nice
small font, the articles range from an
interview with Razorblade/Alliance to
an article on what burgers contain
(Yak!) There are three nice, if a bit
common in style tunes to choose from,
they all seem to suit the mag though!
This Mag also has a scroller going
along the bottom of the screen whilst
all articles are being displayed, a
neat touch I haven't seen done before!
One minor glitch I found was that I
kept going on to the next article
because the > arrow moves the mag onto
the next article wheras the up and
down arrows go through the actual
article. The articles are of a
generally high quality and some are
quite funny but I felt that the mag
was slightly lacking in content ( I
think they did have a good reason for
this though somewhere in the mag!)
There was one article about a guy from
`Furious '92' that had me rolling
around in laughter!! but there are
also some more varied articles on the
scene, food, Risks of dying (EeEuH!)
and all sorts of other things! I
hadn't seen the other three issues of
this mag but I was quite impressed by
the presentation and finesse of this
product, Keep it up!
Overall......7.5/10

Eurochart #17/ Static Bytes
The Eurochart used to be a favourite
of mine and I'm glad to say that
Static Bytes have tried to retain the
original look of the wonderful
production by Crusaders, they've even
retained the original font! A nice
Frankenstein piccy by Sauron is the
first thing that appears. The tune
for this one is a definite improvement
on the slow, sad one on issue #16 but
Static Bytes should realise that the
Eurochart was and is meant to be fun
and Fleshbrain's funkster tunes used
to refelct that! The newsfile is like
a little disk mag built in to the
Eurochart, it is mainly a news and
adverts section with the odd article
here and there, a nice touch that
makes the chart last longer in appeal.
Another option is the `Gallery' here
we see the pictures of all our fave
scene guyz and also all our least
favourite ones! In the Eurochart 17
they have added colour to there
digitising buit it's a bit ropey to
say the least. (They use a 24 bit
digitiser then convert it to 16
colours!) But there is something about
the eurochart that lacks the
excitement of the original, perhaps
it's because ypou can predict who's
going to be where or to steal a line
from a writer from Deadlock, people
used to like it and get it just
because it was the Crusaders, Static
Bytes just doesn't do the same
thing... Anyway, enough moaning,
quite a pleasing production and seeing
as it is THE chart, still my
favourite.
Overall......8.5/10

Satanic rites #3/ Destiny
Okay, to start with, this production
is quite well coded, the graphics are
also of quite a high standard but the
article quality just isn't there.
Most of the articles are of quite poor
quality and some in disgustingly
garish colours. Destiny's obsession
with Satan, rituals etc etc is getting
a bit boring now to say the least, I
admit the title is quite good but
going on about Satan all the time just
isn't funny (If that what it's
supposed to be) anymore! To be fair,
some of the articles are okay but
these are the exception in an
otherwise well presented magazine.
The music isn't that suited to a disk
mag either but that's a minor problem
as it's easily rectified with the old
volume knob! (hehe)
Overall......5/10
